Missions Festival at the Holler Ministries

Anna Testa and myself accepted the opportunity to spread the news about Sole Hope at a Missions Festival October 27th. It was really cool to be able to be a part of this as a fairly new ambassador. The Holler Ministries was host to about ten organizations that seemed to serve Africa for the most part. Each organization had a table set up to tell parents and their children about ways to get involved. People from the Black Mountain Home for Children were there as well as people who had heard about this event. The Holler has a really fun set up. They had a walkway set up at the beginning where people would walk through. The story was that they were flying to Africa, North Carolina. They had a “security guard” who would make sure you were safe to fly as well as a greeter once you arrived in beautiful Africa, North Carolina. This was something really fun and silly for the kids but it was great too because once you made it to where all the tables were set up, you were able to experience a little bit of Africa. Some of the Holler residents were making authentic style African food, which was quite tasty. Anna and I visited the kitchen often. They not only had authentic style food but authentic style “buildings” as well as a village tour. Neither myself nor Anna made it to the African village tour but from the looks of everything else, it would seem that it was probably a very good representation.

Anna and I were able to talk to many people about what Sole Hope does and how they can get involved. We were even able to get some shoe patterns cut out, thanks to some very helpful children. It was really cool to see how much joy a child received from cutting out a pattern on fabric. It was also very cool to be able to talk with people about Sole Hope. One of the girls from the Children’s Home told us that a couple weeks prior she had actually participated in a shoe cutting party. It was great to hear the impact they made with just six people. She told us how their party was set up with stations and how they were able to cut out twelve pairs of shoes in just an hour and a half. That war really cool to hear and then be able to share with others we spoke with that afternoon, as a way to encourage them to get involved because every little bit helps. It is events like this that keep you encouraged. So many people were excited to hear about what Sole Hope is doing and you never know what they are going to do. Being able to provide people with a way to change the world opens so many wonderful doors, doors the Lord will hopefully bless and then in turn allow for more awesome work to take place so that the precious feet of beautiful African children can be blessed and kept without scars.
